Korea Warns Against Capitalism .c The Associated Press SEOUL, South Korea (AP) -- North Korea warned its people today against the ``Trojan horse'' of capitalism, ruling out any economic or political reform in efforts to rebuild the communist nation's tattered economy. The official North Korean Central News Agency carried an article attributing the collapse of the Soviet empire to its acceptance of ``non-socialist elements'' -- greater economic and political openness. '' `Glasnost' and `pluralism' called for by imperialists and renegades of socialism should never be allowed,'' the article said. ``Not the slightest illusion should be harbored about ... `reform' and `opening' that invite imperialism.'' The article had been jointly published earlier by the daily Rodong Sinmun and the magazine Kulloja, or Laborer, both main publications of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea. It described Western calls for North Korea to open its closed society as an attempt to send in a ``Trojan Horse tasked to destabilize socialism.'' Instead, it urged the government to redouble ideological education of the public. North Korea, a reclusive state proud of its ideology of juche, or self-reliance, turned to outside aid to feed its 23 million people after five years of disastrous weather devastated its already inefficient collective farming system. The United States and its Western allies are proposing that North Korea abandon its nuclear and missile development programs in exchange for expanded economic aid. William Perry, a special envoy of President Clinton, delivered that message when he visited North Korea last week.
