intersex. Usually, surgery is performed, with the pediatric surgeon deciding
whether the child will be a boy or a girl. This author suggests we should
leave those babies intact, and allow them to develop a sexual identity as
they group up. She even suggests we add a gender designation of "intersex"
for babies who are not clearly male or female. She raises some interesting
and uncomfortable questions about this issue, which affects several thousand
