I would not advocate this as a joke. And I do not think most people would.
To do so would be immoral to me as it teaches theft and threatening. I don't
understand people who think the tenor of this joke is just "a joke" and we
all should "lighten up". It reminds me of the frog in the cold water who
didn't notice the heat turning up slowly and steadily.
Although I agree with Hilary that, unfortunately, the joke exemplifies life
these days.
