**HateWatch Interview with Lisa Cherniak of Artists Against Racism**
Lisa Cherniak, a Canadian journalist and organizer with Artists Against
Racism (AAR), talks with HateWatch about her civil rights work. AAR is an
international, educational, non-profit organization where musicians,
actors, writers and performing artists lend their names and voices to
speak out against racism and serve as role models to young people.
According to Ms. Cherniak, the aim of AAR is to combat racial and
religious prejudice which the young often learn from their friends,
society, peer pressure, parents, and racist music which
unfortunately has a substantial presence on the web.

**Racist party gains in Germany**
Though it was predicted that the popularity of the ruling Social Democrats
is on the decline, the weekend defeat of the German Chancellor, Mr.
Schroeder's, party in two key State elections in Brandenburg and Saarland
has caused much consternation. To Rub salt in the wound, the extreme right
racist `German Peoples Union' has made
impressive strides. The voters in the State elections are not impressed
with Mr. Schroeder's proposed economic reforms, highlighted by drastic
cuts in by drastic cuts in welfare and social security spending.

**Witness recounts fatal attack outside gay bar**
Tim Carroll said that when he first heard Edgard Mora say the word
"faggot" near a South of Market leather bar, all he wanted to do was get
away. "Just leave me alone,' I said. I could see the door to
the bar, it was just feet away now," Carroll testified Tuesday. Then, "I
heard this cracking sound, it was loud enough to make me reel and go "What
was that?' " The sound was Mora's fist hitting Brian Wilmes' jaw.

**Vandals paint swastikas, KKKs on cars, houses**
IIinois Police were searching Monday for vandals who painted swastikas and
KKK symbols on cars and homes in a racially diverse neighborhood over the
weekend. While several of those targeted are black and Hispanic,two
others are white, police said.

**Hackers put racist, anti-government slogans on embassy site**
Hackers hit a Web site for the U.S. embassy in China Tuesday, replacing
its home page with racist and anti-government statements.
A group named Level Seven Crew claimed responsibility on the page for
the prank, making references to bombing China and a "war of skill" with
hackers started by the FBI.
