-Caveat Lector-
I have deigned to offer a corrected and up to date version of the 45 points.
See below . . .
> In 1963, none of this 45 point list had been accomplished. Today, most
have.

> EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA
>
> IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
>
> Thursday, January 10, 1963
>
> Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an
> ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published
> the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the
> public to the dangers of communism in America.
>
> At Mrs. Nordman's request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous
consent,
> the following "Current Communist Goals," which she identifies as an
excerpt
> from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen:
>
> [From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen]
>
> CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS
>
> 1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
Coexistence through so-called low-intensity and proxy warfare in Vietnam,
Central America, and Africa, in which the United States has been complicit
in murdering as many innocents as Mao and Stalin combined. (And the killing
continues today in East Timor.) With that kind of kill ratio, we can save
our nuclear weapons for more seroius adversaries, like the Sandinistas.
> 2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
Who needs atomic war when you can have proxy states do your murdering for
you? Besides, it's hard to exploit the natural wealth of an irradiated
country and difficult to use the dead as slave labor.
> 3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament of the United States would
be
> a demonstration of moral strength.
Now this is rich. With defense budget increases under Clinton reaching
Reagan levels and the US military looking for soime legal (or extra-legal)
means to operate domestically, disarmament appers not to be on anyone's
agenda. (Unless you mean disarmament of the citizenry . . . .)
> 4. Permit free trade between all nations regardless of Communist
affiliation
> and regardless of whether or not items could be used for war.
Well, let's include "fascist affiliation" here as well to be fair. America
doesn't care about the ideology of the murderers as long as their friendly
to our bankers and CEOs.
> 5. Extension of long-term loans to Russia and Soviet satellites.
And why not? IMF loans are just warfare waged on the economic level. Spare
the troops; use the World Bank Strategic Adjustment Program to starve a
nation into submission.
> 6. Provide American aid to all nations regardless of Communist domination.
Unless you're hapless Cuba or affiliated with those world-threatening
Sandinistas, in which aid is fired from the barrel of a gun. Again, I would
simply make sure we are being fair and include the fact that American aid
also goes to all nations regardless of Fascist domination (of which there
are far more today than pesky commies, thanks to American largesse).
> 7. Grant recognition of Red China. Admission of Red China to the U.N.
The first step towards American corporate takeover of Red China.
> 8. Set up East and West Germany as separate states in spite of
Khrushchev's
> promise in 1955 to settle the German question by free elections under
> supervision of the U.N.
Well today Germany is united and acts as a staunch American ally. They were
as willing to bomb Serbs and Kosovars as we were, so this little problem
appears to have been rectified.
> 9. Prolong the conferences to ban atomic tests because the United States
has
> agreed to suspend tests as long as negotiations are in progress.
We can test our weapons using powerful computer simulations not available to
other nuclear powers. This was always just a ruse to keep other countries
from activating the nuclear genie while the US continued to build and refine
its stockpiles.
> 10. Allow all Soviet satellites individual representation in the U.N.
Since the only Soviet satellites now in existence are those that are falling
from the sky, this seems a moot point.
> 11. Promote the U.N. as the only hope for mankind.
Give lip-service to the UN, but renege on all our financial obligations and
use our veto power in the Security Council to censor any efforts condemn or
punish US client states (such as Indonesia).
> If its charter is rewritten, demand that it be set up as a one-world
> government with its own independent armed forces. (Some Communist leaders
> believe the world can be taken over as easily by the U.N. as by Moscow.
> Sometimes these two centers compete with each other as they are now doing
in
> the Congo.)
Hell, who needs the UN, we got NATO!
> 12. Resist any attempt to outlaw the Communist Party.
Well, such a blatant act would be against the Bill of Rights; instead, we'll
secretly harrass, blacklist, and imprison them out of existence. That will
keep those goons from the ACLU off our backs!
> 13. Do away with all loyalty oaths.
Except for loyalty to Our One Protestant God and to Creationism. Note that
virtually every frontrunner in the current election has had to express their
Godliness and make peace with the flat-earth creationists.
> 14. Continue giving Russia access to the U.S. Patent Office.
Whew, now that's a danger. In their current economic state, the Russians
might actually be able to corner the world market on beet cigarettes.
> 15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States.
Sorry, Wall Street has beat them to it.
> 16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American
> institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights.
If Waco is any guage of success, then this effort has been a spectacular
failure.
> 17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for
socialism
> and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of
> teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
Oh yes, it's patently obvious our schools are producing whole cadres of
socialists! I suppose it's those evil pinkos who are out to ban the
teaching of basic sceince in our high schools.
> 18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
So all that news about the latest cheerleading competition is part of an
insidious commie plot? Who woulda thought?
> 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or
> organizations which are under Communist attack.
Today we can only get students to riot at Dave Matthews concert. I suppose
you're right; America has fallen, fallen hard.
> 20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments,
editorial
> writing, policymaking positions.
Since The Press is today owned by about 5 (I may be overestimating here)
major corporations, I think the commies have lost this one, too.
> 21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures.
Let's see, if you're talking about beltway neo-liberal elites who bow down
before the gods of Wall Street, you've got a point.
> 22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of
> artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to "eliminate all
> good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and
> meaningless forms."
Goodness! You mean Jesse Helms has been a closet commie all these years?
> 23. Control art critics and directors of art museums. "Our plan is to
> promote ugliness, repulsive, meaningless art."
Again, Jesse Helms and his cohorts trying to shut down the NEA, little more
than communist cabal. My word!
> 24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them "censorship"
and
> a violation of free speech and free press.
Yeah, that whole "free speech. free press" thing is really over rated.
> 25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and
> obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.
Let's see, the mass media is owned by big, transnational, capitalist
corporations who will produce anything for a buck. By golly, good old
capitalism has great respect for culture, don't it?
> 26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural,
> healthy."
At the risk of being beaten and left to die on a dark country road. Those
poor commies seem to have failed again.
> 27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social"
> religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual
> maturity which does not need a "religious crutch."
Social religion seems to be friendly to all ideologies, even rampant
capitalism. Who needs all that stuff about charity and poverty when my IPO
split three ways! My wealth is my reward from Jesus, halleluhah!
> 28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the
> schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of
> church and state."
I'm with you here. I think we should all kinds of prayer in schools,
Christian, Hebrew, Muslim, Pagan, Wiccan . . . .
> 29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate,
> old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation
> between nations on a worldwide basis.
Ollie North and William Casey are also part of the commie conspiracy? Is
nothing sacred?
> 30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers.
Yes, censorship and non-critical thinking are the great friends of democracy
(funny, I thought it was the commies who didn't allow their founders to be
discredited . . . .)
> Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common
man."
They had a concern for the common man; the common, wealthy, white man, that
is. (Sorry, that excludes you, too, ladies.)
> 31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of
> American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the "big
> picture." Give more emphasis to Russian history since the Communists took
> over.
Uh, let's ask a recent high school graduate if he can name the Czar that was
overthrown in the revolution of 1917. I think we'll find that the commies
have failed again.
> 32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any
part
> of the culture--education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental
health
> clinics, etc.
Yes, instead we should support any corporatist movement to give centralized
control over any part of the culture.
> 33. Eliminate all laws or procedures which interfere with the operation of
> the Communist apparatus.
Given the vast increase in the powers of surveillance granted to the Clinton
administration, I think we've got this one nipped in the bud.
> 34. Eliminate the House Committee on Un-American Activities.
Yes, this is gone, but who needs it when television does the job for us?
> 35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI.
Aw, those poor saps in the FBI. They can't even burn a group of innocents
alive today without getting a bum rap.
> 36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions.
Uh, like your saying that Joe Bonano, Carlos Marcello, Sam Giancana, and
John Gotti were commies? I wouldn't say that too loud if I were you.
> 37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business.
Funny, I really hadn't noticed Big Business engaged in wealth
redistribution. Maybe I just haven't yet received my check.
> 38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social
> agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no
> one but psychiatrists can understand.
Yes, even the American right has been co-opted by those clever commies in
this regard. Those Republicans and right-wingers say the American poor and
homeless are just crazy and need to be instiutionalized! Can you believe
it?
> 39. Dominate the psychiatric profession and use mental health laws as a
> means of gaining coercive control over those who oppose Communist goals.
Now if this were the case, Reagan and Bush would have had to hold their
cabinet meetings in Bellvue. (Maybe that explains a lot . . . . )
> 40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy
> divorce.
Dman straight! Let's keep those batted wives in their place, in the home
cowering in the closet!
> 41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence
of
> parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to
> suppressive influence of parents.
Democracy can't expect to thrive if our children are exposed to dangerous
new ideas like evolution.
> 42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate
> aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest
groups
> should rise up and use united force to solve economic, political or social
> problems.
Yes, we need to correct those history books! How could have made that
mistake in reference to the so-called "Revolutionary War?" Those wily
commies!
> 43. Overthrow all colonial governments before native populations are ready
> for self-government.
We've stopped those commies in this case. We've made sure those colonial
governments are dominated by strong, no-nonsense military dictatorships who
know how to deal with those pinkos. Indonesia is a shining example of our
success in this regard.
> 44. Internationalize the Panama Canal.
Oops! I guess they may won this one. Now if there were only some commies
around to run the darn thing . . . .
> 45. Repeal the Connally reservation so the United States cannot prevent
the
> World Court from seizing jurisdiction over nations and individuals alike.
Damn straight. Leave the seizing of jurisdiction over nations to the US and
the capitalists and CEOs in the WTO.
