Uh ... Before we get too carried away here, the more mundane understanding of
the Annunaki and Igigi ("Watchers") in Sumerian religion is that they were
the northern and southern circumpolar stars respectively, "the motionless
ones on high," in contrast to the predictably cyclic planets on the ecliptic
(the 7 main deities, in Sitchin's listing).
When the Universe was divided up (when Tiamat [and Abzu], the Dragon of
"Chaos" [and/or her mate] was conquered and carved up like silly ylem-putty),
"sky-god" Anu got the northern polar region, "water/earth god" Ea got the
area of the South Pole (where
he, like Osiris, is to be found still in Canopus/Argo), and "war god" Enlil
got rule of the ecliptic, with the planets subordinated to him by brute force
as "king of the gods" [like the "Lord of Hosts," meaning General of the Army,
Yhwh Adonai ha-Tzabaoth].
Same basic concept held by the ancient Egyptians of the "stellar religion"
period, as you may discover when reading the oldest Pyramid Texts.
