I'll tell you about 2 incidents.
1. One day I was out with my first child and a large pregnant belly. A
woman I didn't even know walked up to me and blasted me for
contributing to the world's overpopulation, saying that I was "wasting
our precious Mother Earth's resources and exploiting poor people of
color." This was a white woman with one child tagging along. I am part
Lakota, mostly of European extraction, but 100% American since America
is the land of my birth and culture. I found her remarks extremely
offensive. First, walking up to a stranger and butting into personal
business is a serious breach of etiquette, defined as simple
consideration for others. Second, her remark struck me as racist, both
against whites for reproducing, and against "people of color" for
casting them in the role of eternal victims. Being part Lakota, and a
woman, I could claim victimhood for myself, but I have chosen to be a
person, not a victim.
2. A woman who was once a close friend (we've grown apart over the
years) told me she was an advocate of zero population growth. Her own
(one of 2) daughter has 4 children. I asked her about that. She said
that her daughter should not have had more than one child. This woman
had previously expressed how hurt she was that her daughter no longer
speaks to her. I wonder why...........
Yes, the message disturbs me. Which population is supposed to be
reduced? Me? You? I keep seeing images of Hitler and Waco........
ENFORCED population control infringes on human freedom and human
dignity as much as restrictions on freedoms of worship, association,
and exchange of ideas. If you have further questions, I'm sure I'll
read them on the list.
