-Caveat Lector- All: Just now on a local talk radio program in Atlanta, a reporter (Chris Ruddy) has been quoted (by paraphrase) as having said that he monitored air traffic control reports from towers handling Egypt Air, Flight 990. This monitoring took place via the headset of a United Airlines flight that he was aboard at the time of the incident. According to the talk show host (Neal Boorts), Ruddy reports that several aircraft were told by controllers to divert from any course near the flight path of 990. Presumably, and according to Ruddy, when queried for a reason by pilots in the vicinity, the controllers said that "rockets were being fired in the area." Take this for whatever it's worth.
