-Caveat Lector- http://www.apbnews.com:80/newscenter/breakingnews/1999/12/28/viagra1228_01.html Police: Pantless Jail Guard Had Viagra in Car Man Faces DUI Charge After Traffic Stop Dec. 28, 1999 By Richard Zitrin FORD CITY, Pa. (APBnews.com) -- A part-time county jail guard who got caught in his car with a Viagra pill and his pants down was allegedly driving drunk, authorities said today. The guard, Matthew Serene, told APBnews.com that too much is being made about the incident, which he blamed on recurring problems with a Ford City police officer. Serene, 25, was charged Monday with driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Armstrong County Jail Warden William Laughner. Serene is accused of having a blood-alcohol content of .105 -- just above the state's legal limit of .10 for drunken driving -- when he was pulled over Aug. 7, police Chief Jan Lysakowski said. Police: drugs in system Lysakowski said Serene was not charged until Monday because police were awaiting the result of a blood test. The test, performed at the state police crime laboratory in Greensburg, showed Serene allegedly had marijuana and cocaine in his system that day, Laughner said. When Serene was stopped for DUI four months ago, he was driving in his boxer shorts and had a Viagra pill -- medication used to treat impotence -- in the vehicle. Serene said he was in his underwear because he had spilled a drink on his pants and had taken them off. He also said he was driving his father's car, and that his father, David, has a prescription for Viagra. "As far as I know, that's not really a crime," Serene told APBnews.com. "And to me, boxers are a pair of shorts. Come on, now." Serene, who said his attorney, Jack Heim, advised him not to comment on the case, said he and others in the community have had problems with the officer who arrested him, Jason Hufhand. The officer could not be reached for comment. Heim also refused to comment. 'A clean-cut kid' Warden Laughner called Serene "a clean-cut kid" and said the part-time jail guard, who has worked for the county for about six weeks, is not suspended, but that he has been taken off the work schedule at the jail until his case is resolved. "He's innocent until proven guilty," Laughner said.
