</A> -Cui Bono?-

"He blames the Americans ..." Well, as I research my recollection for the
specificity of the factual information, the Albanians refused to participate in
their own government (and still do, remaining as part of Yugoslavia) and,
therefore, caused a lot of their own problems, INCLUDING being occupied by a
bunch of ferriners.

We never no way can not excuse inappropriate behaviour by the soldiers, if the
reports are accurate. And, we do not necessarily blame them for being a little
edgy. After all, they're in a largely lawless land (unless one accepts the
various nationalities of 'mafiosi' as the "Law"), babysitting a large number of
presumably adult people who apparently can't otherwise settle their own
differences withOUT the Americans, nor the French, nor the Germans, and nor the
Russians, and all the rest, nor have they been able to do so for about 700
years (just ask the Turks).

And it's wintertime and they're away from home and family doing this little
'police action'. And they know the score on the ground better than anyone
else.

I submit that the American soldiers have a little Albanian/Kosovarian gripe.
And so might the French and the Germans and the Russians and all the rest have
their own little gripe. I have a gripe: why am I devoting any of my tax money
and time via potential re-entry into military service to quell a 700 year-old
civil dispute? Why am I devoting $$$ and thoughts toward former comrades in
arms for a bunch of people who bugged out of their own country to make way for
Christiane Amanpour and her ilk becoming the voice of the 'underdogs', the
spinners of tall tales and sensational evening news? Why did they not,
instead, stay home and participate in their own country's affairs and solve
their own internal, sovereign disputes withOUT outside interference? Are they
better off now that they've gotten cruise missiled, bomblet-ed, sent back a
half century or so in civilisation?

Solution? Pull our men & women OUT of the quagmire and let 'em Kosovarians
deal with their own problems of their own making. They made it through the
Ottomans and Tito and Stalin, they can make it again (just takes a little
effort).

Once more: no excuses for untoward behaviour but having to be concerned about
every shadow and every breaking twig is enough to blur any sense of reasonable
or standard conduct.
