A country that for centuries threw open its portals to the tired and oppressed of other lands and by doing so, strengthened itself from within; selecting strong-willed people longing to be free and willing to produce more than they consumed as they worked for freedom and realized, one- by-one, each in their own way, the "American Dream". As each part of this great country grew stronger, the country as a whole grew strong, almost invincible. A shining light to the world. But alas, while still a young nation, still with a lot of good life ahead, our friend was attached from within by the "disease", a malady now recognized as terminal. This disease could be recognized by many manifestations - selfishness, greed, apathy, laziness, blatant lack of patriotism, and in later stages, an almost complete departure from all morals. It's internal defense mechanisms, designed into this marvelous country by the patriotic architechs at its inception, its very own people, decendants, most, of these first loyal patriots, failed to rush to the signs and symptoms of this fatal disease. It is said by those who know that this "Constitutional defense mechanism" had been slowly destroyed by the precursors of the now fatal disease, a disease of incideous onset but with very noticable symptoms. The "Constitutional defense mechanism" that was to keep this body strong and healthy and nourished was first weakened by constantly deceiving the mechanism into the delusion that it had no reason for existance within the body, that the body could remain healthy and vital while hosting the disease. And all the while the disease would create false diseases for the protection system to further weaken itself upon. There were those "anti-bodies" that were ever vigilant, not fooled by either the precursors to the disease or by the disease itself but they were few, too few, in number and were tremendously impeded in the last, terminal days of the disease by the rest of the defense mechanism that had, for years, been kept ignorant, made lethargic and in some cases actually aided the disease in its spread. It is sad to realize that our friend could have been saved, even in the last days, by an old, miracle remedy put in place many centuries previous...... but alas, most of the parts that made the whole of our friend had turned from the only salvation capable of saving its dying existence, the Creator!
