You got it. Individual states vary as to how much they consider ADHD
children qualified for "special ed." But the fact that it was suggested
to me when my oldest son (now 7) was TWENTY MONTHS OLD, to put him on
Ritalin (by an ex-friend who is a public school teacher) was a major
factor in my decision to home school. I live in northern New Jersey,
where pharmaceutical companies are a big part of the local economy:
thousands of jobs, millions of dollars in everything from property
taxes to the retail sector (most are located convenient to lunch-hour
shopping) to the service sector (restaurants, CPAs), and I'm sure that
there is political/financial incentive to diagnose more children with
ADHD and put them on Ritalin and other mind-warping drugs-- after all,
in New Jersey, the term "corrupt politician" is redundant. <snort>
