-Caveat Lector- {{If this confession is used as evidence against McVeigh, could not law-enforcement and prosecution, when they are pretty sure they have the right person, just tell them they are going to die real soon of a terminal illness or something and see to what they will confess? Then they would have a 'deathbed confession" to use if an appeal is filed. I think the FBI might have become a bit hysterical with this case. Remember the Freeman standoff when the FBI used the 'heat-sensing' device to count the number of militia encamped in the area? Being typical 'spymasters' of the "Get Smart" variety, you will recall that they counted the cattle, too!! I think maybe 42 members of militia made an appearance but the FBI found 30,000 'warm bodies' camped all over the place. Must have been city boys for those were cattle. But it scared them sufficiently that they backed down on that one. Guess they scared themselves. And I think that may have happened in the OKC situation, also. Just my thoughts. ~Amelia~}} Sunday May 13, 2001; 10:41 p.m. EDT McVeigh's Confession Null and Void, Lawyer Argues A lawyer for convicted Oklahoma City bomber Timothy McVeigh argued Sunday that his recent confession to the April 1995 crime has been legally nullified by the FBI's admission it kept secret thousands of pages of potential evidence from attorneys at McVeigh's 1997 trial. McVeigh's attorney Robert Nigh made the startling assertion during an interview with Fox News Sunday's Brit Hume and Tony Snow. HUME: Is your task not somewhat complicated by the fact that your client admitted he did this? NIGH: It is not. This case has to be viewed in the context of the evidence at trial. It has to be viewed in the context of the evidence that is now available to us, that was not available to us in 1997. Seconds later, Tony Snow revisited the issue of McVeigh's confession, made public in a book released just this month. SNOW: Mr. McVeigh has said that he is the sole person responsible and that he wants to die. Has he been lying to everybody? NIGH: He has never said that in court and under the legal status of his case when he indicated that he would not want to pursue any further appeals, we did not have the kind of revelation that we have today. In light of that, it's completely reasonable to reevaluate his position. McVeigh admitted to Lou Michel and Dan Herbeck, authors of the new book "American Terrorist," that he planted the bomb that destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah building on April 19, 1995 -- and did so acting alone. Previous to the speaking with Michel and Herbeck, McVeigh had refused to discuss his role in the bombing.
