Nakano comments:
Dan Rather played a part in another sinister attack
on a different President.
According to his own report and his own book,
Dan Rather was the only news reporter who was an
eyewitness to the assassination of John Kennedy.
The other reporters were riding several cars back
in the motorcade. They had not turned the corner into
Dealey Plaza in time to see the shooting.
But Dan Rather wasn't in the motorcade.
He was standing on the sidewalk on the north side
of Elm street just before the triple underpass of
Stemmons Freeway. Several hours after the
assassination
Dan Rather told his story to the nation on the
CBS Radio Network.
Rather said he had a direct and clear unobstructed
view and that he was looking directly at President
Kennedy when he was shot. Rather stated that the
impact of the shots threw Kennedy "violently forward,
and almost into the seat in front of him".
It's curious that Rather's report supported the
official story (and the Warren Commission Report),
that John Kennedy had been shot from behind.
But Dan Rather did not tell it the way it was.
The famous Zapruder film of the assassination very
clearly shows that President Kennedy was thrown
BACK AND TO HIS LEFT. At no time was he thrown
forward as Rather reported.
(Of course, the public was not allowed to see that
film until several years later.)

That false report launched Dan Rather's career on
a meteoric rise. CBS promoted him from an obscure
job in Houston to become the CBS White House
Correspondent! He was the CBS man at Lyndon Johnson's
White House until he became a co-host on the CBS
Program "60 Minutes". Then when Walter Cronkite
retired, CBS gave Rather the top job in the network.

Dan Rather lied to America at a critical moment
in our national life. The Zapruder film proves this.
For this he should not be forgiven. Rather wrote a
book about his career during those years.
There is grim irony in the title of his book.
"The Camera Doesn't Blink."
