U.S. urged to define terrorism
Bahrain | By Latheef Farook | 12/11/2001

Seven political and Islamic organisations in Bahrain have urged the
U.S. government
to first define what is terrorism and deal accordingly rather than
causing death
and devastation to the innocent Afghans who have nothing to do with
the September
11 attack on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon.
They have also cautioned the Arab and Muslim governments siding with
U.S. led
military strikes that their stand is bound to intensify people's
hatred especially
with the continuous killing of innocent Afghans.
In their joint memorandum which is to be submitted to the U.S.
Ambassador Ronald
Neumann and the British Ambassador Peter Ford in Bahrain they also
pointed out
that U.S.-led war on Afghanistan has reached an extremely dangerous
point where
political and Islamic societies in Bahrain cannot remain silent
without expressing
their concern from a humanitarian point of view.
"What is needed is to act within the legal framework and that too
with logic
and wisdom , and try to bring those perpetrators to book while
trying to study
the root cause to solve the problem," the memo said.
It also appealed to all governments to stand up for justice and try to find
a solution within the legal framework before things become worse for everyone."
Strongly condemning the September 11 attack and expressing their sincere condolences
to the families of victims they also rejected all attempts to link these attacks
  to Islam.
In this regard they called for an international conference on terrorism to define
what is terrorism, prevent each government from defining what is terrorism from
their point of view, and deal with all those who commits such acts.
The memorandum urged the U.S. administration to undertake a thorough study of
its foreign policy, especially its policy towards Arab and Muslim countries,
and highlighted the need to differentiate between terrorism and fight for freedom
against foreign occupation especially the Palestinian struggle for freedom against
  Zionist occupation.
"What has been happening in the occupied Palestinian territories is more than
enough to brand Israel as the worst terrorist entity in the world and it is
time that the American administration stops its unjust policy towards the
Palestinians,"
  it said.
The joint statement was issued by Islamic National Society, Democratic National
Action Society, Al Eslah Society, Al Tawhiya Islamic Society,
Democratic Society,
Islamic Society of Bahrain and Arab Islamic Wasat Society.
Around 15 more cultural and other societies have also expressed their
willingness
to be included in this memorandum.

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe

Believe only after careful observation and analysis, when you find that it
agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all.
Then accept it and live up to it."
