Yeah it was there before Castro took power. I think
they had a 200 year lease or something like that. If
Castro tried to boot them out then the U.S.A. would
gladly declare war on him. I hear that things are
loosening up a bit in the relations. I've heard that
the GITMO NAVAL BASE softball teams play the Cubans and
so forth. So the tensions are going away somewhat.

that this would be a major thorn in their side or is there some
co-operation going on that is largely kept from the public?
this would seem to explain why america 'tolerates' a communist
country so close...
