Banking and investment industries face aftermath of US tragedy

     A spokeswoman for the Carlyle Group, with offices on Madison Avenue,
said the building had been cleared, but that most of the firm's executives
were at an investor conference in Washington. The city was also subject to a
suicide bomber's attack on the Pentagon. Carlyle's executives are stranded
in Washington for the time being, because all internal and external flights
in the US are suspended.
