Unless Walker-Lindh came with impeccable papers of introduction from the same parties that control both bin Laden and Walker-Lindh... Otherwise, not only is it unlikely the kid had access to the inner bin Laden circle for the reasons you mention, but also because one would think al-Quaeda would have been suspicious of an American kid claiming to be a "true believer", and would have thought of him as a possible spy until he had the opportunity to prove to them otherwise...but he wasn't there long enough to do anything more than undergo their training, so it's highly unlikely that he did anything extraordinary to gain their confidence enough so that he would be admitted to the 'inner circle'...
