What was once a 20-minute ambulance ride from Salfit to Watani hospital in Nablus stretched into a two-hour journey yesterday that ended with [the patient] being declared dead on arrival. At least 30 Palestinians have died since the start of the hostilities in September 2000 as a result of being held up at army checkpoints, including six babies who passed away shortly after birth, according to Lior Yavne, of the Israeli human rights group B'tselem. Palestinian estimates are higher.
