Don't know 'bout you but I speak American ... anyway, the more languages the kids
learn to
speak (aside from American) is mucho beneficialissimo. This of course works many ways,
everyone gets to not only learn the majority lingo but learn (and teach) others as
well.
There's nothing more pathetic than an American meeting a furrenner -- here or abroad --
and can't demonstrate some facility in a language beyond his or her own. A great
example
in Chevy Chase in "Nat'l Lampoons Euro Vacation".

This "English-only" effort is just another ruse by the Englanders theyselfs who
imposed this
@#$%&*^ rule on their "empire" in order to bleed the Celts and others dry of any
cultural
heritage other than what emanated from the dictates of Londonistan. It's been a real
pain
in the arse 'n ail for the Welsh and the Scots and the Bretons (France playing along)
and
the Manx and the Irish to throw off the yoke of lingual serfdom and subserviance to the
latent haemophaeliac crowd. I've even seen movies made o'er there -- supposedly in
English -- that had to have subtitles for American audiences. May as well learn a
Continental language ... helps with the eavesdropping in public places. Nothing more
fun
than watching the expression on a non-native American speaker's face when he tells a
joke
in a furren tongue and then you laugh right along with 'em. Beyond the Englanders and
their unsuccessful attempts to cow their conquered, we have a whole buncha peoples who
have heritages that should permit a little more cross-conversation between the New and
Old Worlders. This will tend to lessen the alienation of those who are coming here and
gonna be here whether we like it or not. The emphasis is on sharing, not the old-style
imperialist throat ramming-jamming-cramming.

They be havin' whole bunchas o' fun in the Mid East and South Asia 'cause there ain't
no
one willing to come forward and practice what they know or learn what they don't know.
You learn real quick that the least reliable person is your interpreter, 'cause he or
she has
you by the tongue.
