A High Court judge in England says it was the Leeds General
Infirmary that mixed up fertility treatments resulting in a
white woman with a white husband giving birth to black twins.
The British Broadcasting Corp. says genetic tests show the
woman was the biological mother of the twins, but she was im-
pregnated with the wrong sperm. The BBC reports that experts
say such a mixup is very rare -- never more than a couple of
times a year out of thousands of fertilization procedures.
The black couple involved still is trying to have a child,
but there will be a hearing to establish legal parentage of
the twins.
