must excuse my ignorance on this.

Still not sure if you are building a distro or a kernel?

Distribution (Distro) - complete OS including kernel, operating system,
and all utiltities and applications that go with it

Kernel - the core program that interfaces with the hardware in modern
operating systems.

In the fedora project sources are usually on the last few cds in a 3 to
5 cd set. if you have the source cds you can install the package.
under fedora it may be something like kernel-source-2.6.??.-? something
something.

it will usually put the files in /usr/src/redhat/SRPMS or something like
that. I dont use fedora very much. cant be much help here.

You can probably also use yum to download the package from the internet.
try 'man yum' at the command line. or google for 'linux kernel source yum'
