They are indeed quite fun and useful. For some notes I've made on using Knoppix: http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Customizing_environment_using_4.0.2CD > One question, however - how does grub find an image if you're using > booting from a CD? Just to clarify, Knoppix still uses Isolinux as its bootloader, instead of grub. Grub would be nice, though. Kanotix uses grub, but doesn't use UnionFS, which is necessary for a PDI. (If I'm mistaken, someone please correct me.) Which image are you referring to: an ISO image, the persistent disk image (PDI), or both? > Do you have to cut a custom CD to find the file on the system? Nope. You can use the regular downloaded CD. > Boot parameter to grub? Nope. Just boot from the CD and Knoppix will scan the available filesystems for the file knoppix.img. Filesystems can be on floppies, zip disks, USB sticks, FireWire drives, internal IDE drives, and SCSI drives. > Install grub on the system? Nope. Just boot from the CD.
