Separate things -

Ownership tells you who controls the piece. When a piece is on the
board, you can only see both sides if you "own" the piece. This
property is usually set when it comes from a piece tray in which one
side has "ownership". Generally found in cards that you play to a
gameboard. You play the card from a tray you have ownership to the
board, and your opponent can only see the top part of the card until
you release ownership of the card. Then both you and your opponent
see both sides. Before you release ownership, only you see both sides.

Visibility comes into play on the piece trays. This will determine
how much information the players can have on pieces in the tray. You
can set tray visibility to show everything, limited information, or
nothing. On playing boards, you can restrict visibility to show the
tops of counters, but not the back sides of counters.
