"As I understand it, Disney spend an awful lot of lobbying money keeping Mickey
Mouse in copyright, so I suspect unless a large cheque is included in the
letter, this appeal will fall on deaf ears."

Actually Disney does a GREAT DEAL MORE than that. Mickey and that whole cast of
characters Walt & co. cooked up many, many decades ago would have gone off
copywrite multiple times already except that the Disney corporation employs
lots and lots of highly compensated lawyers and lobbyists to see to it that
Congress keeps extending the number of years copywrite materials are owned
before going into "the public space." It's become like a never ending lease.
Tryng googling "Lessig" and read his essays on the public commens to understand
how your access to all manner of things -- and not just entertainment such as
games and art -- is being relentlessly eroded by the growing power of corporate
entitites over what used to be a matter of routine public access after 7
years...now 70 and climbing "to INFINITY AND BEYOND." Oh, sorry, that's Buzz
Lightyear...Pixar owns him I think...for now at least...but someday they'll be
one big company and there will be no copywrite because they will own everything
in perpetuity.

Ask yourself a question. Why would Disney will EVER allow the artwork of Mickey
Mouse to lapse if they can avoid it by filling the coffers of congressmen?
Now, the law says it should lapse...but Walt's desciples just keep on moving
that cheese further and further away. That's why my poor kid had to go to
Legoland instead...
