* subscribe at http://techPolice.com Presidential elector faces child porn charges By TIM MCGLONE © 2001, The Virginian-Pilot April 19, 2001 NORFOLK -- A Republican activist who was one of Virginia's 13 presidential electors last year is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on child pornography charges. Parker J. Bena, 38, of Virginia Beach, faces a nine-count indictment charging him with receiving and possessing child pornography and making false statements. Bena is accused of possessing in his computer at least eight images of nude boys and girls, some engaged in sexual acts, according to the indictment. In one instance, a picture showed a child under age 3 engaged in a sex act and other pictures depicted incestuous acts, the indictment said. The indictment, which was filed in Norfolk federal court, also charges Bena with lying to the FBI about the crimes. The investigation unfolded in fall 1999. Bena called the Norfolk FBI office and told an agent that he received an unsolicited e-mail depicting child pornography, the indictment said. Agents learned that Bena voluntarily entered so-called child pornography ``club sites'' and downloaded images himself, the indictment said. In a subsequent statement to the FBI, Bena wrote, ``I do not know of anybody who despises me enough to send such material. It probably came through by chance.'' The indictment said Bena knew that statement was false. Bena said he would have no comment on the charges. He remains free pending his arraignment.
