Proof:

When  I asked the Birmingham proof master I was told that
the gun barrel proof acts only apply on sale or transfer
- If it is a personal import and you NEVER sell or
transfer it then it does not need to be proofed.

Oh, BTW, the proof acts apply even if the gun has proof
marks  - it MUST still be in proof when sold or
transferred. The proof marks themselves do not guarantee
that the guns is still in proof - they are just like an
MOT cert. in many ways. :-)
