In evidence Mr Chisholm and Mr Alastair Paton, another firearms expert, stated that they had never come across such an arrangement in the course of their experience. However Mr Paton accepted that putting round-nosed types at the top of the [20 round] magazine could have been done with a view to avoiding the risk of a cartridge sticking between the magazine and the chamber." I've read newspaper reports saying (not completely accurately from the above) that jacketed and expanding cartridges had been alternated - that was what I was mistakenly alluding to previously, I was wrongly thinking that meant one of one kind then one of another kind. I note in the Cullen Report Hamilton is said to have entered the gym and "fired indiscriminately" - in a more recent report on Mrs Mayor's husband's retiring to Cyprus (in the Telegraph.co.uk) she was said to have been shot SIX times, which I'd not read before anywhere. I would love to see a proper report of who was shot where with what and with how many bullets - I get the feeling that "sparing people's feelings" is denying us a lot of possibly-relevant information. Frankly I don't think terminal ballistics was that much of an issue as most of the victims were five-year olds. All the organs would be closer together and not much penetration would be needed, so almost any type of ammunition would do considerable damage. Steve.
