I agree!
Shimano 105 and higher have all sealed bearings. Anything lower will
have a shorter life!

Check craigslist "Raleigh area" for used bikes but you should be able to
get a new 105 equipped bike on sale for 1200 to 1400.

Subject: [COWs] question

I have a female friend that is interested in cycling. I have been
searching around some for bikes put wanted to ask the COW experts for
advice. She is very athletic, but never been on a road bike. I think
she would like to stay in the $1200 or below price. She will probably
need a 54. She has looked at Don's but I wanted to see if you all
have seen any out there lately for a good deal? My entry level
schwinn was only $800 and I got over 5,000 miles on it before having
to do any work to the drivetrain. What is the lowest component setup
you would recommend for her to start with?
Thanks everyone
David C.
