Chris,  I think you will be fine.  It is only 1000 yds.
Get in and swim ~200-500 before the start and
focus on relaxed breathing.  You will do fine w/o one.

If the water was below 70  or a longer course I would say
get a wetsuit.  If you have a rashguard type top that
would help some.

Eric was talking about this last Fri and he plans
to swim naked.....well  w/o a wetsuit.
