The MS group had 2300+ riders (imagine that paceline). Absolutely perfect day for riding. The planets were in alignment (that's for you Tim L). Saw new Bob (Dillon) and Ken Keeter from the RM group. In fact we are all in the same hotel. Anyway everyone was looking forward to the ride today. Lined up at the 20+ sign and off we went. Crossed the bridge and manuevered (sic) around the slower riders from the top team that lead out first. Once on 55 it was on and the hammer dropped. A group of about 50 of us were cruising at around 24 or so. That pace continued until I decided to stop at the 2nd rest stop (my team was manning & Colleen was there) and lost the lead group. Anyway, hooked up with a guy (Steve) who road with me last year and we set off at 22 or so trying to get up with a group around that pace. Would find one, stick with them for a while, then they would slow down. Legs were feeling great so we just passed them and moved on. We got separated in another group and I heard a pop from behind. Looked back but couldn't see anything so continued on. 1/2 or so later looked back, no Steve. I then concluded he must have flatted. As we didn't have any formal agreement to stick together, I continued on. Visted Colleen again and from that point on I was solo for the most part. Still maintaining 21 - 23 pacing. At mile 70 or so, I passed Doc's friend from Greenville (Dionne is her name), then passed here twice more (it was loop or was it deja vue?). Anyway, legs were still feeling great and my average at that point was 21+ with only about 20 miles to go. Fortunatley most of the stoplights cooperated and didn't present problems for the folks approaching. I'll try to attach pics showing stats. Looking forward to recovery drinks and pasta for dinner. Doing it all over again tomorrow, another century, this time through Oriental.

Other pics of the event can be found on my Facebook page.

'Till then...

The BC had 7 riders, Pete, James, Dave W., Steve B., Jonathan, Susan and I
cruised to Samaria then on to Nashville for 54 miles and a few hills. Saw
the others headed out Lake Wilson Rd. as we rode by. Great day to be on a
bike. No cars, no dogs, no wind and no 90+ degree heat.
