Subject: RE: [COWs] lindas first triathlon

Final results are in for Ramblin Rose sprint tri....I finished 15th in
my age group (going to give away my age here):

Place Bib Age Code NAME CITY/STATE Rank SWIM T1 Rank BIKE
T2 Rank RUN TIME
15. 652 42 LINDA CAVAS WILSON NC 67 5:27 1:26 22 35:14
1:23 22 16:31 0:59:58

225 swim, 9 mi (very hilly) bike, 2 mi run

I had a BLAST in my first triathlon! A few short months ago I could
barely swim, did not even have a bike to ride, and didn't know what the
heck I was doing. I could not have done this without some great friends
that I made in the CoWs and Swimmers groups:

Bert - thank you for getting me started, introducing me to the groups,
and pushing me in the pool -- that one session with you and I realize
that my lack of endurance was in my head and it all just "clicked" after
that...now I just need to work on speed :) so glad I decided to go to
yoga class!
DC - thank you for helping me pick out my bike, getting me on the road,
and being a great encourager and friend!
Jon - thank you for talking so much during our rides, and for almost
dropping me -- which frustrated me but made me stronger :)
Jim - thank you for riding in with me during my first group ride and
telling me I'd be a good rider if I only got a decent bike, and for
noticing that nasty wind sheer in the parking lot at the ride of silence
:)
David W - thanks for not laughing at me during our Swim America sessions
and for always telling me that I'm getting better!

There are lots of others in the CoWs and Swimmers groups who have been
encouraging and supportive. For all of you reading this who have never
joined a group ride or are intimidated to try something new, take it
from me that you will never find a more supportive group of individuals
who will show newbies the ropes because they love cycling and swimming
and want to see people succeed and love it as much as they do!

Now I'm hooked and can't wait to be the last (run) leg of a relay for
the Kerr Lake Tri with David W (swim) and Jon (bike) in a few weeks. We
will get out there with DC, Dan, and Chris, (others?) who are doing the
full tri. Then on to the Smithfield Three Little Pigs Tri the following
weekend!!

Wow what a tri this was. Almost 1100 ladies and linda comes in 78 with a
time of 59:58. Her goal was under an hour so she did that and if the
pool had not be so jammed with swimmers she would have come in sooner.
The spilts have not been posted yet but i know her bike was fast cause i
just about missed the blaze as she past. She is already talking about
the next one....watchout boys this "little" cow is on the move.
Great job linda and great ride at SN you guys....
