If you're a new member of this group, or someone sitting on the sidelines,
because you may be intimidated by the fast paced ride reports posted here (in
which some are fairy tales), now is your chance to ride with the "C" group.
The majority of the CoWs are "B" group riders. They typically herd around at
speeds of 19 to 21 mph. Then you have the NASCAR guys (''A'' group) that have
this itch that doesn't go away unless they're cruising 22+. Then you have the
more civil "C" group, otherwise known as the "Breakfast Club", because we know
how to spend a Saturday morning. This group usually cruises around at 17-18
mph, but the "C" group hibernates through the winter and when time changes we
crawl out of our caves and proceed to locate our bicycles. Then we learn how
to ride all over again. Ok, I'm exaggerating a tab bit, but what I'm saying is
this. For the next few weeks this group will have some rusty riders and the
pace will be very casual as some get their legs back.
If you're a new rider and wish to start riding with a group, now is the
time. It will not take long, a month or so, and they'll be back cruising
around at their normal speed. For now we meet at 6:00pm at Susan's house.
(1307 Cloverdale Dr.) on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. We may eventually
change start location, but DD is very congested at 6:00pm. The ride will be 18
to 19 miles long for the first couple of weeks and I imagine the pace will be
~16mph. A true NS ride! (Nauseatingly Slow for those that have ridden through
the winter.)
This ride is a 20+ year tradition for some. I'll not name any names, but
I'm sure I've taken part in over 15 of those years. This ride will be every
week until time changes again in October and we crawl back in our caves. If
it's raining, there may or may not be anyone riding depending on how much rain,
and/or how much someone feels the need to ride!
Tuesday 6:00pm
Thursday 6:00pm
(1307 Cloverdale Dr.) Forest Hills Subdivision
This group will also start riding on Saturday mornings. For now we'll post the
times because temps may determine start time. Starting April, this ride will
begin at 7:00am and will include a mandatory breakfast stop. I usually catch
heat if there isn't a Hardees on the route. This ritual usually weeds out all
the fast riders.
P.S.
If you're still not sure about group rides then you can always post here and
see if you can find a riding partner. It's more fun and motivation than going
it alone!
