Hi all
Thanks for your help so far. I have Cygwin running, and am now trying to
tinker with getting GNOME or KDE to run. I don't know the invocation for the
kde window manager, so that never got off the ground. But I was able to find
the command gnome-session, which I appended to the end of the script for
/etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc. My computer is an HP TouchSmart TX2 laptop, with 4
gigs of RAM, and running Windows 7.
GNOME never ran. Instead, I got a blank screen, and the following output
after running startx from an rxvt window. This output includes my
termination of X-Windows.
I am concerned about the LoadPreferences line. Why is it loading .XWinrc
when I'm using "startx"?
xauth: file /home/Owner/.serverauth.4904 does not exist

At any rate, the end result is that there is no WM running, and I get a
fullscreen black window (the X-server) with no windows inside, and no menus.
In my Windows Task Manager, I get the following processes which persist
after X-windows exits:
dbus-launch.exe
dbus-daemon.exe
gnome-session.exe
Any help on getting gnome to run is appreciated.
