Hi,
I am new to cygwin. I would like to use cygwin to connect to my remote
linux (ubuntu) box and work from remote.
I installed the standard x86_64 cygwin, redirected x11 from putty and
managed to have my remote (linux) eclipse being displayed on my laptop
(where I installed cygwin).
The only problem with that is X11 does not use the gnome desktop libraries,
so that the look and feel is not the same I have working directly on my
linux machine.
I found cygwin-ports and I hoped this could solve my problem.
But, even though I have been trying to download it for almost a week, it
seems there is some problem with the internet setup, and it always stops
when it reaches libraries/packages starting with "z" on.
Following is what I do:
- setup-x86_64.exe -K http://cygwinports.org/ports.gpg (from an
administrator windows command prompt)
- I select install from the internet
- select "use Internet Explorer Proxy Server Settings"
- add "http://downloads.sourceforge.net/cygwin-ports"
- add " ftp://ftp.cygwinports.org/pub/cygwinports"
- select another mirror close to me (UK) (in total I have 3 sites selected)
- In the "select packages page", I select install to everything
After a long time, downloading various packages, when it arrives to
packages starting with "z" (i.e. zmanimcli ) the setup stops with "Download
incomplete. Try again?"
If I answer yes, things can go very wrong about ini file missing etc., when
that does not happen it will stop again with the same message anyway when
it attempts to download the same package.
If a say no, after the md5 check for the downloaded packages, another error
message comes up "Can't open(null) for reading: No such file", if I close
that, it will pop up again and again.. the only thing to do is to cancel
the setup at that point :(
Removing the package that causes the problem (looking at dependencies) the
problem is only moved in the next package starting with "z" (i.e.
zeitgeist, zmanim... )
I am using setup version 2.829 (64 bit). My OS is Windows 7 Enterprise SP1
x64.
Thank you very much in advance,
Stefano B.
