Yep, that's what I meant too.

If %HOME% is deleted from System->Advanced->Environment Variables it
automagically reappears after a reboot, presumably courtesy of MKS but it's
not obvious how it's restored nor how to get rid of it.

Hm, I hadn't noticed that myself but then again I'm not trying to run Cygwin
on the machines which have MKS (unfortunately).  Beyond uninstalling MKS, I
don't know what would help here either.  I'm not a MKS guru. ;-)
