For uses that comply with the badlaw, e.g. downloading the latest Ubuntu release, bittorrent remains as spectacularly effective as ever. It was designed as a technology for fast downloads, not for liberating cultural data. Dependence on easily suppressible search sites seems like a major Achilles's heel for the latter purpose.
