I don't ever explicitly set dateFormat in my code, because I want the user to 
be able 
to set it how they prefer using their operating system control panel. Because I 
test 
on Linux mostly, and Linux tends to default to "%m/%d/%Y" (for en-US locale) 
I've 
never noticed this problem.

However, Windows seems to like 2-place years so this would be a problem there 
using 
default settings.
