Thanks for the help, and we'll definitely pursue learning to code by  hand.
 
 
 
We are open to considering SDI  type interface. We recognize that for many 
office functions, flexibility and  independence can enhance productivity.  
But most of our software is written to  manage testing processes in FDA 
regulated laboratories in blood  banks. We tend not to want users to do  things 
in any order. The software should be enforcing a linearity of process.  One 
task should be completed before another is initiated, etc.  A lot of this can 
be accomplished using  modal dialogs. But we also think having all the 
functions and screens in a  single screen “container” helps to control things.  
With pure lookup functions,  there's probably no worry with screens 
floating around. But forms that  handle testing process, we like to enforce a 
"finish what you're doing first"  rule.
