A reflection on today's Scripture:
"His adversaries were filled with confusion . . ."
And what else would opponents of the most enlightened person ever to
walk the Earth expect?
Sometimes, we place ourselves in the place of opponents. We work out
cleverly worded questions, or carefully thought-out chains of
reasoning to justify what we know to be unjustifiable. We look at our
brothers and sisters and criticize their actions, then walk out the
door and do the same.
If we should be caught for a moment off guard and actually see what we
do (because I don't believe for a moment most of us act out of malice,
more often out of ignorance) we too would be confounded. We would be
covered with confusion.
In fact, the confusion of Christ is better than the clarity of the
world, for it is in that confusion that each of us begins to learn
love. Each person begins to see and begins to understand that the
world is by no means what it seems on the surface.
Let's listen carefully next time we are caught out and see what we can
learn about following Jesus from being obedient to His word and to His
intent.
