A reflection on today's Scripture:
Increase Our Faith . . .
Today the apostles utter the very best prayer that can be said. It is
the very best because it pleads for the greatest good--increase our
faith. Increase our knowledge and understanding of God. But more,
increase our ability to truly love God. Let us know God as deeply as
we can know Him, and let us accept from His hand all that He has for
us knowing that be it good or ill in human eyes, it is all perfect in
God's eyes.
We need this reminder, and Jesus gives us a little hint of what faith
is about. If you start with a little, with a thimbleful, with almost
nothing, and you pray and have just a little -- soon you'll be able
to command all the elements and all the natural things causing them
to do all sorts of things. But you won't want to, because you will
want to do what God wills.
Faith breeds faith. Faith generates faith. Faith yields faith. Faith
is love of God. Love of God engenders every human virtue and a good
many that transcend humanity. So, Lord, Increase our faith and make
us vehicles for the increase of faith in others.
