A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
The prophet urges us today to console one another. Sometimes we feel
so empty in finding words of consolation. Often, just being present
is enough, just a squeeze of the other's hand comforts their heart.
Often, one who has experienced a similar sorrow, can be the most
comforting to another. How fortunate we are who share a common faith
in God, in Christ in the Garden, in Christ on the Cross. We have a
source for hope and "reconstruction" of our lives, broken and
seemingly destroyed by tragedy.
Today is also the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
The experience of Blessed Juan Diego parallels that of Mary at the
Annunciation. How terrified this simple man was at the appearance of
the Lady...and how much inconvenience and embarrassment it caused
him! How much he was like Mary, who was a little terrified at being
found "full of grace"! Both gave humble submission to the favor of
the Lord; both, because of their obedience, became instruments of
immense grace of millions!
Can we believe that God could work so much good through us if only we
would humbly say 'Yes'?
