A Reflection on Today's Scripture:
Do whatever He tells you.
Jesus' miracle of turning water into wine may be seen as an act of
compassion, His sparing embarrassment to those who hadn't adequately
prepared for the wedding festivities. However, taken in the full
context of the Gospels, Christ's act reveals a deeper truth--His
power to transform.
Christ's power is shown in His giving mobility to paralytics;
banishing fevers, stanching hemorrhages; granting health to the
infirm; restoring sight, sound and speech to the handicapped;
forgiving sinners; satisfying the hungry; subduing a storm; expelling
demons; correcting religious errors; raising the dead; comforting the
poor, oppressed and over-burdened. In summary, he healed humans (and
nature) of all afflictions resulting from our fall into sin and our
self-imposed separation from God.
Our heavenly Father sent His Son to earth to make all things new and
restore us to Him. Jesus transforms humanity by making us aware of
sin, leading us to repentance and acceptance of the forgiveness He
won for us on the cross. His death in human flesh satisfied God's
justice, paid the penalty of death we deserved for our sin against
the all-holy, Creator-God.
Those genuinely accepting salvation and who progressively surrender
their wills in loving obedience to Christ's Holy Spirit, will grow in
their new life and be made fit to participate in the heavenly wedding
feast of the Lamb.
Blessed Redeemer,
awaken us to our weaknesses and sins,
that we may come to You
for healing and transformation. Amen
