I was impatient so I tested quickly DeepL Translations have been done from English to Italian. The first impression is very good! The system translates well simple/ordinary sentences. If you put many technical/specific words, translations are not 100% usable out of the box. Another problem seems to be the source, in this sense: it translates well English but if you put something taken from an American source (i.e. newspaper, etc.) the output is a lot worse... Languages is English in both cases but the constructions of sentences are a lot different!
In my experience translations from English to Italian will always be very difficult because English is very simple while Italian is so complex. Now - as soon as I will be back home - I have to test DeepL with some parts of dt manual. I expect to find good results with simplest parts and worst results with more complex/long/technical sentences. @ Roman: I agree with you. Translation must be done by humans because you need grammar and vocabulary but also experience and brain. Nevertheless if an auto-translator is good you could ask it to chew the biggest job while you have only to refine the result. It is a matter of time and quality of the result.
