A valid workaround (especially for those folks who prefer using the LTS
releases) is to use the snap verison of Darktable -
https://snapcraft.io/darktable.

However, my concern is that it's not officially maintained by the Darktable
community (it is maintained by the individual); it would be great to see
Darktable project maintaining the snap package officially.

PS. Flatpak version exists as well, which is maintained by the Flathub
community - https://flathub.org/apps/details/org.darktable.Darktable
