yes, darktable 1.2 has a different db format that can not be reverted back to 1.1.x easily
I used the attached scripts to compile and run DT when developing. It installs DT in a completely separate subtree and uses the proper parameters to launch it don't use them as is (they have hard-coded path and aluch gdb) but that should get you started...
