That tools in Linux already exist and darktable would probably just
provide an interface, so why not use them directly thus avoiding
overhead and debugging time.
I bulk rename all files with krename quite efficiently, bevor I employ
darktable.
In case just a few files need renaming, I do that outside darktable
including XMPs and reimport the folder back into darktable.
krename belongs to KDE, I'm sure there are similar tools in other GUIs.
