Thank you for your quick reply Roman!

Here's the output of darktable-cmstest:

-> %  darktable-cmstest
darktable-cmstest version 2.2.5
this executable was built with colord support enabled
darktable itself was built with colord support enabled

couldn't locate primary CRTC!

XWAYLAND0    the X atom and colord returned different profiles
    X atom:    _ICC_PROFILE (737728 bytes)
        description: 7PHPT-LQ156D1 #1 2017-08-14 19-58 327cdm2 D6500 2.5 M-S XYZLUT+MTX
    colord:    "(none)"
        description: (file not found)

Better check your system setup
 - some monitors reported different profiles
You may experience inconsistent color rendition between color managed applications

I also did

 colormgr get-devices

as I understood that would give me the settings of colord?

Hi all.
Hi.

I've been trying to fix my color management workflow for a while, but I've
gotten nowhere so far,
I was hoping maybe someone here could help.

What I'm trying to do is get a raw from my camera, edit it in dark table,
and then post it on the web,
say on instagram.

I created a monitor profile with DisplayCAL (I'm on ubuntu) and loaded it
through the system settings.
What does darktable-cmstest say? (paste all the output)

My first try was to set the "display profile" in darktable to "system
default" which should be my custom profile.
That is correct.

If I do that (no matter whether I set the output profile to sRGB or Adobe
RGB), the exported
images look the same in darktable and the gnome image viewer and in geeqie
(with color management turned off).
That sounds strange, can't speculate without darktable-cmstest output.
That being said, i only know that geeqie does do color management,
but i don't know about gnome image viewer.

But once I upload to any website, the colors become desaturated and green.
Is your browser color-managed? Most likely not. Also, are you sure the
website does not simply discard the color profile info from the JPG?

This is why the output color profile setting should stay at the default (sRGB).

However, if I set darktable's display profile to "Adobe RGB", the exported
image now shows up the same on
the web and geeqie with color management set to the system profile.
It looks
different on the gnome image viewer,
though.
So i guess it does not do color management. Not a huge surprise.

Given that my main goal is to publish on the web, that's the workflow I'm
using now, but it seems rather strange
to me to set the darktable's display profile to a different profile. Is that
the correct workflow?
And is there a way to make the colors show the same way in the gnome image
viewer?

Thanks,

Andy
Roman.
