you don't need to make changes to your system.
  darktable --cachedir /dev/null --configdir /dev/null --datadir /dev/null  
--library :memory:

  darktable --help

which "config file"?

doesn't that make you believe you might have a system problem, dt working
on the system you "moved" to?
