My computer is not very fast (no OpenCL available), so it often takes several seconds for Darktable to render an image with some non-trivial development.

Sometimes I want to compare two (or more) different development options of an image. I either use duplicates and switch between them in the duplicate manager, or click around in the history for one image. I often want to quickly flip back and forth a couple of times to see the difference.

However, it seems like Darkroom runs the whole rendering process each time I flip between duplicates, and at least parts of it when clicking around in the history, which is very annoying when that takes several seconds.

Is it possible to cache rendered images in darkroom mode? It seems like it does some caching in lighttable mode.

(I have 12 GB RAM and a 64 bit system, so there should be plenty of space to cache a couple of full screen bitmaps in memory.)
